Tracking shorebirds

Shorebirds have been studied by NIOZ scientists since 1986. The main goal of these long-term programs is to investigate the ecological processes explaining long-term changes in numbers and distribution of this characteristic long-distance coastal migrants. A major finding is that spring (fueling) conditions in the Wadden Sea are essential for shorebirds to mitigate into their breeding areas.
