Dutch Minister of Science attends signing of MoU-agreement between Royal NIOZ and JAMSTEC in Tokyo

On Friday October 5th, the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) and the Japan Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) will confirm their close collaboration with a Memorandum of Understanding. The Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science Ingrid van Engelshoven is present at  the signing ceremony in Tokyo; Wim van den Doel, member of the NWO Executive Board and NIOZ portfolio holder will sign the agreement on behalf of NIOZ.

Japan and the Netherlands both have a close relationship with the sea; the agreement confirms a long standing cooperation between the national marine research institutes NIOZ and JAMSTEC of both countries. Because of the crucial role that the seas and oceans play for life on earth, a shared understanding of those changing systems is of great societal importance. For this reason, the aim of the agreement is to foster the exchange of knowledge and make optimal use of each other's seagoing research facilities.
