Macrozoobenthos

Macrozoobenthos are important components in the Wadden & Delta ecosystem. They are the largest secondary producers in the systems food web and in turn a major food source for birds, fish and other invertebrate species.  Benthic sampling is an important part of many research projects like SIBES.

OCT 2020 | In the 2000s, this invasive shellfish accounted for over 45% of the total microalgae consumption by the benthic community of the Wadden Sea.
