This year’s symposium will begin with an exciting night including dinner, drinks and a social event to break the ice. The following day will include plenary talks, parallel workshops and science speed-dating coupled with poster session. This interactive program gives you the chance to get to know each other and the expertise of UU and NIOZ, and to share ideas with early career marine scientists across disciplines. Throughout the day, we will explore an overarching theme that connects many of us: what role can, or should a young scientist take in the urgent topics of climate and biodiversity? How do we focus our science to be most relevant? How do we communicate to a broader audience? We hope exciting new collaborations between early career scientists from NIOZ and UU will arise!

This symposium is for Early career scientists (PhD, postdoc) from either Utrecht University doing marine-related research or NIOZ, both first-time visitors and visitors of any of the previous editions. The participation (including meals, accommodation and some drinks) is completely free. To participate in the symposium, please register before Monday, 11th September 2023 12:00 PM. For the science speed-dating & poster session, please bring a poster or graphic abstract of your latest work in A3 size with you. For more detailed information, please see the program. For questions, feel free to contact the organising committee via unecss@nioz.nl.

We hope to see all of you there, and we are excited to create and build our community with you!
