There have been no material changes since the previous update on 2 October. RV Wim Wolff will remain out of service during the winter season while repairs continue. A reliable date for its return to service is not yet available, partly because some replacement components are made specifically for the vessel.

Recap: the incident resulted from a valve being unintentionally left open, together with other technical and operational circumstances. Sections of the interior need to be replaced. The repair costs are covered by insurance, subject to a deductible. An additional, clearer warning indicator will be installed to help prevent a similar incident in the future.

Applications for ship time on RV Wim Wolff in 2027 should be submitted through MFP as usual. The planning will be adjusted if necessary when more is known about the vessel’s return to service.

NIOZ will provide an update when further information becomes available. You can find the previous update here: Update 2 on the RV Wim Wolff incident.
