Speakers on the colloquia series 150 years of NIOZ.

This year, NIOZ celebrates its 150th anniversary. To mark this milestone, our Colloquium Committee organises a series of special lectures featuring internationally renowned speakers at the forefront of marine science. People from outside NIOZ are more than welcome to join.

The five-part series explores key themes shaping the future of ocean research, from cutting-edge research infrastructure and biodiversity to ecosystem restoration, climate tipping points and microbial processes. Together, these lectures offer fresh perspectives on the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Designed for a broad audience, the series aims to spark dialogue across disciplines, connect people and ideas, and strengthen the international scientific community around NIOZ. That is why all lectures are open to both NIOZ staff and interested people from outside our institute.

The invited speakers are:

  • Leigh Storey, Future Marine Research Institute (UK)
  • Michelle L. Taylor, Ocean Census and University of Essex
  • Joanne Preston (University of Portsmouth)
  • Stefan Rahmstorf (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research)
  • Bess B. Ward (Princeton University)
