Update construction RV Anna Weber van Bosse

Work on the RV Anna Weber van Bosse continues at the Armon Astilleros shipyard in Vigo also during the summer. The ship is scheduled for delivery at the end of this year. "It is great to see how all the plans and ideas are now becoming reality. Soon the Anna Weber van Bosse will be ready to sail the world oceans, taking the Dutch Marine Research Community to explore the ocean from the surface to the deep sea, from the tropics to the poles," says Gert-Jan Reichart, head of NIOZ's Ocean Systems Research department, who visited the shipyard earlier this week.
The schip's cranes, frames and the CTD door are being installed, and the aft deck is made ready for exciting new science. Blasting and painting work is taking place on the outer decks. With the scaffolding around the main mast beging removed, the highest point of the ship is now in full view.

Inside the ship, the carpentry work of the accommodations is almost finished, and technical areas are being insulated and equipment installed in the state-of-the-art laboratories. The electrical systems and battery packs are being installed and tested step by step.

The site team in Vigo has to work hard to keep up with the progress being made and has been expanded with our own chief engineer and soon our captains will be joining. The coming months will be exciting, involving a lot of consultation, inspection and testing.
