I am fascinated by the complex life cycle of different types of seaweed. In the future, seaweed is likely to become an important source of sustainable food and a raw material for bioplastics. Cultivating seaweed is a very precise process: it requires specific temperatures, nutrients, and daylight hours. Many coastal waters contain excessive nutrients. Seaweed can help to remove these and improve water quality. In addition to understanding how seaweed grows, I want to ensure that it is cultivated sustainably. Even more so in the future, when seewead farming is likely to increase significantly.
