Anja Spang
Research Leader
My research focuses on improving our knowledge on the deep roots of microbial life on Earth, the origin and diversification of eukaryotes and the role of recently discovered archaeal and bacterial symbionts in the evolution, ecology and diversification of their hosts and ecosystem functioning. To this end, we combine computational with microscopy and molecular approaches that allow us to investigate the genomic potential of microbial symbionts, their cell biology and ecological relevance as well as symbiont-host interactions.
