Ocean dynamics
The ocean is always in motion, from small-scale turbulence to global ocean circulation. We study what drives these processes and how they influence ocean chemistry, marine ecosystems, and past, current, and future climate.

From the diffusion of heat and salt on molecular scales, to the global ocean circulation, we need to understand the processes that drive them in order to understand how they have changed in the past and how they will change in the future. These dynamic processes also impact how the ocean absorbs and redistributes CO2, oxygen, nutrients, or even transports biological organisms. A key subject of research at OCS is to discover, measure and gain fundamental understanding of dynamical ocean processes.
