Molecular ecology & evolution

We explore the hidden world of marine microorganisms—the tiny life forms that sustain ocean ecosystems and influence life on Earth. To do this, we rely on molecular laboratory techniques that let us uncover their diversity, and we harness molecular big data approaches (omics) to understand if their genes are present and how they are regulated.

By analyzing complex ecological networks, we investigate how microorganisms interact with one another, and through powerful phylogenomic methods, we trace their evolutionary history across deep time.

Together, these molecular and computational approaches reveal how unseen communities of microbes drive the health of our oceans and the future of our planet.
