Or Amar

PhD student

I, my name is Or and I am a PhD student specializing in computational microbiology and marine biodegradation. I hold a BSc in Computational Biology and Computer Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an MSc in Computational and Systems Biology, during which I developed a knowledge-graph-embedding tool to predict enzyme–substrate interactions in the lab of Dr. David Zeevi.
In my PhD research, I focus on assessing the plastic biodegradation potential of the plastisphere as part of the ViBRANT-SEA Advanced ERC Grant and as part of the EU-funded AtlantECO consortium. By integrating metagenomics and functional inference from ocean-collected samples, I aim to identify microbial enzymes capable of degrading a range of plastic polymers.
