Or Amar

Hi, my name is Or and I am a PhD candidate specializing in computational microbiology and marine biodegradation. I hold a BSc in Computational Biology and Computer Science and an MSc in Computational and Systems Biology, during which I developed a knowledge-graph-embedding tool to predict enzyme–substrate interactions in the lab of Dr. David Zeevi.
In my PhD research, I focus on assessing the plastic biodegradation potential of the plastisphere as part of the ViBRANT-SEA Advanced ERC project and the EU-funded AtlantECO Plastics and Plastisphere Pillar in the Amaral-Zettler Group. By integrating metagenomics and functional inference from ocean-collected and experimental samples, I aim to identify enzymes capable of biodegrading a range of plastic polymers.
