Emma Bronswijk
PhD student
As a PhD student, I'm part of the NWO-Vidi project “Tracing top predator-prey interactions into the deep sea” with Dr. Fleur Visser. Within this project, I'm studying the interaction between the preyscape (fish and squid biomass, distribution, and composition) and behavior of predators (toothed whales) for multiple pelagic deep-sea systems in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. This work involves acoustic sampling of the preyscape using a Wideband Autonomous Transceiver (WBAT) echo sounder deployed from oceanographic research vessels, as well as studying predator behavior (i.a. on-animal biologgers) during day-trips on small vessels.
