Charlotte Scholten

PhD student

I am an interdisciplinary researcher with a background in political and environmental science and a strong interest in marine socio-ecological systems. I currently work on the NWO ECOAMARE project. My PhD research bridges ecology and policy to better understand how an ecosystem-based approach to management can more effectively be applied to the changing human-use and environmental status of the North Sea. I focus on ecological knowledge by examining (a) which knowledge on the ecological impacts of offshore wind farms is and is not used in policymaking, (b) how policy conceptualizes ecosystem status and human use, and (c) the extent to which cumulative ecological impacts are considered in policy, given the planned large-scale expansion of offshore wind energy.
