New research fleet for the Netherlands

NIOZ technicians make complex custommade research equipment, and we developed and manage the research fleet for today’s and future generations of marine researchers. The RV Anna Weber-van Bosse is the almost 80-metre-long flagship of Dutch ocean research. The ship is designed for the future, with interchangeable container labs on deck. This allows specific laboratories and equipment to be taken on each expedition, and several teams can work at the same time. It has advanced positioning technology, an extendable keel with many sensors, spacious labs, and with ice class IC it can sail up to the ice edge.

150 years sea research: understanding, protecting and using the sea

The Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) marks its 150th anniversary. Since 1876, we have studied the sea and everything that lives in it – from delta to deep sea, and from poles to tropics. Our research increases knowledge of the ocean, sea and coast. Only by understanding the sea can we protect it and keep it healthy – and secure our own future. As the national oceanographic institute, with locations on the Wadden Sea and North Sea (Texel) and in the Southwestern Delta (Yerseke), we empower researchers from Dutch universities and institutes.
