RV Adriaen Coenen

RV Adriaen Coenen has replaced RV Stern

In February 2021 the NWO-I Foundation Board has approved the NIOZ investment for the construction of the second new ship in the national research fleet. The seriously outdated Wadden Sea research and support vessel RV Stern was in urgent need of replacement. Next Generation Shipyards in Lauwersoog has won the tender. The RV Adriaen Coenen was christened on 6 July 2022 and has been transferred to the NIOZ and sailed to Texel on August 1, 2022. Her predecessor, the 50-year-old RV Stern, was sold early 2024.
