Local colleagues from the PNBA are kindly servicing the dust-collectors every month. Friese et al 2017 (ACP) figure 2: showing the ways in which Saharan dust was collected

In the paper Carmen and her co-workers compare time series of Saharan dust that was collected on land in Mauritania with dust that was collected with autonomous submarine sediment traps in the ocean some 200 nautical miles off the Mauritanian coast. In the two studied years (2013-2015) there are clear seasonal differences in the composition of the dust, which they relate to varying meteorological conditions. Such observations of modern dust and the quantitative description of the dust' physical properties in relation to meteorological features such as wind direction, wind strength, and precipitation are of vital importance for the interpretation of dust observed in the sediment archive.

This is the second paper of Carmen's PhD thesis that she successfully defended at MARUM-Bremen last May.
