Our research vessel, the Luctor, has been monitoring both the Oosterschelde and the Westerschelde since 1995. A variety of parameters is measured on a monthly basis, including salinity, temperature, silicate, phosphate, sulphate, nitrogen and organic carbon. A total of 17 stations are sampled from upstream Antwerp to downstream Breskens for the Westerschelde. Ten stations are monitored in the Oosterschelde.
Based on these measurements the article "Long-term change in dissolved inorganic nutrients in the heterotrophic Scheldt estuary" was published in 2006. All methods used in our monitoring campaigns are described in this article.
All monitoring data from the Westerschelde up to and including 2004 are now freely available on the download page.
