About:

Lodewijk van Walraven

PhD student - Marine Ecology

 Research interests

Zooplankton ecology & taxonomy, with a focus on gelatinous plankton (jellyfish and comb jellies). My main interests are:

  • Trophic relationships and competition of gelatinous zooplankton with (larval) fish
  • Investigating species composition and seasonal patterns of gelatinous zooplankton in poorly-studied areas
  • Long term changes in phenology of zooplankton
  • Invasive species, especially the invasive ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi
  • Benthic - pelagic coupling (for example the role of jellyfish polyps in bloom formation or the impact of predation by gelatinous zooplanktivores on meroplanktonic larvae of benthic fish/shellfish).
