In 1997 I started as a student looking at the effects of co limitation of the trace metal Zink and Carbon dioxide on the growth of Emiliania Huxley. Afterwards I worked for 1 year as a technician at the CO₂ group and afterwards moved to the trace metal laboratory.

 

My main task is to measure trace metals (in particular iron) in seawater and develop new methods for determination of trace metals. Also organizing and participating in research cruises for collecting and measure trace metal samples in situ is part of my activities.

 

Methods used at NIOZ:

 

- Determination of Iron in open ocean seawater via flow injection chemiluminescence detection.

 

- Determination of various trace metals in sea- and coastal waters with GFAAS.
