64PE366 - Dag 8

Image1It is Saturday, day one of our way back. Which, due to rather bad weather conditions, turned out to be a bit more than a two day journey. Wind force 8/9, 6 meter high waves and a staggering speed of around 5 knots (even down to 2 knots): Texel, here we come!

64PE366 - Dag 7

Rough SeaToday, the scientists are processing the last samples, which in my case means filtering until the sun says goodnight. I can remember when I trialed and errored on folding my first filter, while holding one tweezer in each shaking hand.

The bottles, after: full of the precious liquidAnd then "she" comes back. Exactly like a monster would, she comes out of the water, slowly. Only one thin and apparently fragile rope is linking her to us, but still, she arrives on the deck, full of the treasures we lust after.
[Elodie Burrillon]

64PE366 - Dag 3

Safety DrillOne of the videos was a very realistic one that showed how a hand gets smashed if it is in the way of a closing metal door, it involved a lot of blood or more probably a large amount of ketchup. This one will probably stay in our heads forever.

CakeGreen for St. Patrick's Day ?
… Unfortunately not in the North Sea. The fluorescence values, the indicator for measuring the abundance of chlorophyll used by marine scientists, were very low for this time of year.

Paul, PhD-student on the Charlet project. Packing, loading and unpacking all sorts of equipment doesn’t seem to be too challenging. But only if you are helping out and someone else does the logistic and precise planning.
