Vrijdag, 31 juli	De SCAMP, een apparaat dat nogal breekbaar is en op zijn eigen gewicht heel langzaam (10 cm per seconde) moet zakken om zo met zeer hoge resolutie en zeer nauwkeurig de temperatuur, zoutgehalte, dichtheid van het water te meten om zo meer inzicht te verkrijgen in microturbulentie in de waterkolom.         Hans v.d. Woerd die oa. met de SCAMP allerlei parameters van licht meet om dat zo te kunnen ijken en gebruiken voor zijn modellen.
We liggen nu in Cork, Ierland, maar vertrekken vannacht weer. Alle eventuele achterstand wordt/is weggewerkt en morgen (zaterdag) zullen de nieuwkomers een ruige zee tegemoet zien (wind 8-9). Gisteren een overzicht gehad van eerste ruwe data zodat we allemaal weten wie wat tot nu toe heeft gevonden en we hiermee nog meer de discussie tussen de verschillende personen, groepen en disciplines kunnen versterken. Corina   Today we experimented what many sailors years ago may have felt: we see the light of the lighthouse of Cork late at night, after days and days of water and wind. That was during the little byebye party of the people leaving today the boat. We had also an exciting meeting of the starting results of our experiments in the transect..., people got to know what those picoeukaryotes are (for the reader: those are tiny tiny algae that seem to thrive in the baren ocean), what the SCAMP measures (for the reader: it is measuring micro-turbulence in the top 100 m water column), what Hans is doing with his little apparatus on board (for the reader: he is measuring light profiles and checking parameters for his models related to remote sensing data from satellites). And Roel delighted us with his mp3 music collection. Elena
