Diary overview

Saturday, 27 June

Halfway the afternoon the CTD-YoYo program is ended and the seismics are tested in the water after some repairs have been completed. Everything runs smoothly. During the night the apparatus are brought back on board for a second session of CTD-YoYo. As before, this program runs through the night, and part of Sunday-morning. It is stopped just in time to have everyone enjoy the traditional Port-get-together. This gathering is completed, as before, by a presentation about various subjects. This morning Hans and Theo present the NIOZ-participation in the KM3NeT, the large astrophysics project.

Meanwhile, the seismics run again for several hours. Late-afternoon it will be ended and equipment stored, so that the deck will be free for mooring-recovery. This recovery is planned for Monday-morning, first thing. Each time, mooring recovery is an exciting exercise, because one never knows what to expect. Whether the equipment has worked or not. After all, Neptune is still here somewhere. Although we have honored HIM 18 months ago, asking permission to work in this area, HE has his moods and may have changed HIS mind.
