R/V Pelagia Cruise MICROVIR

Vandaag het laatste normale station. Dat betekent de laatste vroege CTD en in situ pomp, de boxcore en vertical net zijn gister middag al gedaan. Morgen nog een kort station tijdens de transit terug naar Texel en dan kan het opruimen, schoonmaken en inpakken beginnen. De afgelopen dagen verliep alles erg soepel vind ik. Maar ja, wie ben ik…… Na de CTD reparatie van vorige week zijn er eigenlijk weinig problemen geweest. Iedereen doet lekker zijn ding aan boord. De meeste mensen aan boord kijken er naar uit om weer lekker thuis te zijn. Het meeste nog (als ik voor mezelf spreek) om even echt weg van je werk te zijn. Aan boord kom je niet veel verder dan een paar meter weg van je werk, het schip is niet groter :. Niet dat het werk verschrikkelijk is, in tegendeel het is leuk om met z'n allen aan de cruise bij te dragen. Gister is er nog een CTD snelheids record tijdens deze cruise gevestigd. De CTD was het snelst weer boven van alle andere cast's tijdens deze tocht. Ja, je moet wat als je aan het CTD'en bent. Niet dat alles zo snel mogelijk moet maar een beetje competitie zonder het uiteindelijke doel (een goede meting+samples) uit het oog te verliezen is nooit weg toch? Vanmiddag op is er op de valreep nog een barbecue. Het weer is zoals bijna de hele tocht rustig. De afgelopen dag een beetje meer wind gehad maar dat was echt een uitzondering tijdens deze tocht. Af en toe wat bewolkt maar vandaag weer eens een zonnetje. Heerlijk! Jan-Willem Schmelling (elektronicus) Today is the last normal station. Which means the last early CTD and in situ pump, the boxcore and vertical net have been done yesterday afternoon. Tomorrow there's only one short station during the transit back to Texel and then the cleaning and packing can start. The last couple of days everything ran quite smoothly I think. But who am I……. After repairing the CTD last week there were no major problems anymore. Everybody on board is doing his thing and that works quite well. Most people on board are looking forward to go back home. If I speak for myself the thing of being back I'm looking forward to the most is being able to leave work behind. On board you can't really get away from work since the ship isn't any bigger :. Don't get me wrong, the work on board is great. It's very nice to contribute to the cruise with all of us together. Yesterday we achieved a CTD speed record during this cruise. The CTD came back up in the shortest time of all the casts during this cruise. You need some challenge while doing CTD number a lot. Not that everything needs to done as fast as possible but a bit of competition with keeping the main objective on the first place isn't too bad, is it? This afternoon there'll be a barbecue. The weather is like almost the whole cruise: quiet. Yesterday we had a bit more wind then the days before but that was an exceptional day for this cruise. A bit cloudy every now and then with maximum of 5bft is more like it. Today it's nice and sunny again. I love it!! Jan-Willem Schmelling (electronics engineer)
