Education:

 

1981 – 1986:     Masters degree Biology, University of Amsterdam, (cum laude), October 1986.

1986 – 1991:     PhD, Faculty Biology, thesis defence 3 May 1991 (University of Amsterdam).

 

As off 1991, Klaas Timmermans works as a senior scientist at the Royal NIOZ, first within the Department of Marine Chemistry and Geology as off 2008 in the Department of Biological Oceanography. His main research interests are in the effects of trace metal deficiencies on open ocean (Antarctic) diatoms, in the role of diatoms in biogeochemical cycles and effects of diatom growth on global climate change, and in the bioavailability of trace metals, most notably iron. His work combines biology, analytical chemistry and metal speciation modelling.
