Long-Term Ocean Climate Observations (LOCO) – D301/302

Cruise Diary – 2nd April 2006

Another beautiful sunset!

Sunday - After crossing and sampling the eddy yesterday, scientific work has stopped for today and tomorrow while the Discovery steams to the English mooring locations. Thus, a day of rest.

Karel organized a common drink at 11.30 am, just before lunch. Everybody got a glass of port while listening to classical music, creating a sort of 'Sunday feeling', and, after lunch, this helped to experience a good 'siesta' for many of us.

Sailing southwards, we gradually move out of the tropical conditions that we experienced last week. Sea surface temperatures have dropped from above 30 degrees to about 27 degrees. A strong breeze with accompanying waves, makes us really feel to on a vessel again, rather than on a drifting tropical island. Erica even complained about the cold temperatures (still far above 25 degrees……).
