In the fascinating zone between land and sea I work on the ecology of benthic invertebrates. They are an important component of the coastal food web of soft sediment shores channeling energy from primary producers to higher trophic levels like many birds and fish. I am interested in the factors structuring the benthic community both biotic and abiotic, in particular in the role of temporal variability in food quality and quantity.
