 LAST Cruise Diary – 8th April 2006

Your correspondent from the Discovery

Saturday - The end of the cruise comes close. Coming week the complete scientific party and, except for 2, the entire crew, will leave the ship and fly home. That is what we all look forward to.

It is also a good reason for me to finish the daily writing of this diary. No more science to do, only finishing last analyses, writing reports and cleaning up by putting everything in the transport containers.

I found some pictures from a few days ago which are ‘typical for this cruise’. It is our Dutch coffee corner. Apart from all instruments, also a Dutch coffee machine, Dutch Coffee and cookies (speculaas) were shipped with the container. On British vessels coffee is made from Nescafe, of course that does not fulfill Dutch standards. Therefore we made our own coffee, every morning at 10.00, afternoon at 15.00 and evening at 20.00. These It is not only the coffee that attracts but also the ‘social talk’. More and more Englishmen joined us during these coffee breaks!

Finally, I like to close this diary with a picture from you correspondent from the Discovery. I hope that you have enjoyed this diary, and, on behalf of all of us, see you next week!
