Long-Term Ocean Climate Observations (LOCO) – D301/302

Cruise Diary – 5th April 2006

Karel taking samples from the CTD bottles

Wednesday - Last night conditions remained to be too rough to restart the work again. It was a good decision first to steam to the station close to Madagascar where conditions were a bit better. Early in the morning the first CTD station was occupied on the shelf, at some 200 m depth. The shoreline of Madagascar could be seen on the horizon. After some more CTD stations another mooring was recovered successfully in the early afternoon.

Conditions have become a bit better so that we hope that the work on this section can be finished tomorrow.

The sampling of surface water while steaming continues during the entire cruise. On the picture Blanca and Graham work on the filtration system that Blanca uses to filter large amounts of surface water.
