John Davis cuts a core

It was the day before New Years Eve and not a sound could be heard, except the merry chattering of the allusive "Rust Chipping Bird".

A quite day today for all (this is relative - see below). The sparker sub bottom profiler has now been condemned and packed up, due to it trying to spark in places where no sparks should be. The Chirp has been deployed for most of the day, to be replaced by the boomer in the evening. The multibeam data is looking good. The rest of the days science activities consisted of getting the small lander back onboard, and getting all those little (or big!!) jobs done that get put off. No coring today.

‘Santa and friends’

Other news from the front. We now have a new sign for New Year, thanks to Rodger (Artist), Cornelia and Orji (paint pot holders). The other highlight of the day (why, oh why, does it always come down to food) was the spare ribs we had for lunch mmmmmmmmm.

And to finish the day off we had a mirror calm sea and a sunset in the mist. It doesn't get any better than that.

A word of warning for tomorrow's diary entry, a pole has been put up in the bar and may be used if the mood takes someone (to steady ones self in the rough sea's of course, see reference to dancers in yesterdays entry).

Have a good New Years Eve tomorrow
