The cruise in January - February 2008 in the Indian
Ocean with the German RV Meteor is used firstly to recover, service and
redeploy long-term current meter moorings and sediment traps in the narrowest
section of the Mozambique Channel and secondly to obtain detailed
hydrographic and geochemical observations from the water column and the upper
seafloor along this section.
This cruise is a so-called
barter cruise which contributes to the larger Dutch research program
Long-term Ocean Climate Observations (LOCO) in which in different parts of
the world oceans long-term observations are obtained.. It is performed as
part of OFEG (Ocean Facilities Exchange Group) in which a.o.
shiptime is exchanged between a number of European
countries.
