Integrals over surfaces do not depend on the way they are evaluated. Yet, the results may differ in terms of their mathematical expressions, which therefore leads to identities. By first estimating the surface area of an axisymmetric ellipsoid, this has led to certain evaluations of integrals containing elliptic integrals as kernels; in the end, it allows one to arrive at the surface area of an arbitrary ellipsoid.
