Inertial (gyroscopic) waves

This image shows energy distributions of inertial wave modes in a horizontally-positioned, uniformly-rotating cube. The rotation axis is perpendicular to this plan view. Of the first 120 modes, the fifteen shown here were randomly chosen. They are presented by means of their energy distribution in the mid-plane. Notice the competition between rotational circular symmetry and geometrical rectangular symmetry.
