Pseudocalanus elongatus adult female

 

Description of adult female: the adult female Pseudocalanus elongatus is characterised by 4 pairs of long swimming feet. The forebody consists of 4 segments. The urosome has 3 segments plus the telson. The first urosome segment is ventrally swollen, showing the genital opening as a dark spot. Eggs are carried in a sac until  hatching. Large, orange coloured lipid sacs may occur, depending on nutritional conditions.
