Research Interests

Marine Viral Ecology. Current research in the lab involves:

  • Studying temporal and spatial dynamics of marine viruses and their hosts.
  • Investigating the functional relationship of specific viruses in relation to their algal host.
  • Determining the mortality rates of phytoplankton and bacteria due to viral infection.
  • Comparing the ecological importance of viral lysis to other loss factors (e.g. microzooplankton grazing).
  • Studying the impact of viral lysis on the structure and function of the microbial food web.
  • Isolation and characterization of novel marine viruses, including full genome sequencing.
  • Developing molecular approaches for viral diversity studies.

·         Studying under controlled conditions the interactions between virus and host in relation to environmental relevant factors.
