A 3-D interface to the world

We have added Google Earth functionality that facilitates a geographic presentation of the stations of cruises together with basic information. Wherever possible graphical presentations of the temperature, salinity and other measured parameters of the water column are also supplied.

If you have Google Earth installed (download here) click on the little Google Earth “feed button” as shown below to download the feed and start Google Earth to display the stations.

Please choose “Open” or “Run” when asked.

Examples:

this is the feed button for CTD and  this one for Cores

Click on one of the buttons above to display all the public CTD stations or Piston Cores that currently reside in CODIS or CoreBase.

Depending on the speed of your internet connection the download may take some time.

These examples represent the main, but not all, (meta-)data of the public area of our databases. To view more data please explore the Google Earth feeds supplied by the Data Inventory or CODIS and CoreBase pages.

Installation instructions. After installation go to the Tools menu. Check the option “Web” and then click on Options..

In Options go to the tab Preferences and remove the checkmark “Show web results in external browser”.

Inquieries about the use of Google Earth can be addressed to Mr. Ronald de Koster.
