1990-1995 Ph.D.  Ecophysiology of the calcifying marine alga Emiliania huxleyi at Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), University of Groningen

1995-2002 Various scientific jobs and projects

Feb2002-now Staff scientist in Molecular Biology Laboratory of NIOZ (part time, now 80%, till January 2010 50%). Contribution to various research projects on Molecular Ecology

- Diagnostics of Phaeocystis virus strains

- Pyrotag sequencing of microbial community of cold water corals

- Ammonium oxidizing bacteria and archaea in tropical and cold water sponges

- Diagnostics of bivalve larvae in the Wadden Sea and North Sea

- Diagnostics of coral symbionts

- Diagnostics of jelly fisch polyps

- Expression patterns of genes related to calcification in the coral Acropora millepora   (together with Dr Kaandorp, Amsterdam University)

- Molecular biology of seaweeds used in hatcheries (together with Drs Schipper, Hortimare)
