Student opportunities at the department of Physical Oceanography

At the department of Physical Oceanography, we offer internships for:

  • Students from Higher Professional Education
  • University students in Physical Oceanography
The research and training topics are quite diverse and are often determined in consultation with the intern. Usually, your work will be part of an ongoing investigation of a PhD or postdoc but occasionally, we may initiate special projects.Depending on the topic, you may get familiarized with various techniques, ranging from practical work at sea (CTD, ADCP, thermistor strings, moorings) to processing and analysis of moored instrument data and numerical modelling.

Current opportunities

At present we offer the following research projects:

Arctic freshwater flux at Denmark Strait

The East Greenland Current carries cold and fresh polar water and sea ice from the Arctic into the North Atlantic Ocean where it has the potential to modify density contrasts. A portion of this freshwater, however, is mixed into the Nordic Seas as it flows southward and only a currently unknown fraction continues into the Atlantic. The program described here is meant to determine the latter net freshwater flux at approximately 68ºN, just north of Denmark Strait.
