ATLAS_Ocean Dynamics Driving Ecosystem Response

ATLAS gathers diverse new information on sensitive Atlantic ecosystems (including Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems (VMEs) and Ecologically or Biologically Sensitive Areas (EBSAs)) to produce a step-change in our understanding of their connectivity, functioning and responses to future changes in human use and ocean climate. This is possible because ATLAS takes innovative approaches to its work and interweaves its objectives by placing business, policy and socioeconomic development at the forefront with science.

The ATLAS project "Ocean Dynamics Driving Ecosystem Response" aims to improve the understanding of North-Atlantic deep marine ecosystems, i.e. their biodiversity, biogeographic patterns, biogeochemistry, ecosystem goods and services. With that we try to understand and predict shifts in the dynamics of North-Atlantic deep marine ecosystems ecosystems in response to climate change. On basis of ATLAS findings and databases decision support tools will be built for development of key legislation in cooperation with stakeholders and policy makers in European countries, US, and Canada.
