Education at NIOZ

In the Netherlands, NIOZ provides a unique setting where all disciplines of marine research, physics, chemistry, biology and geology, as well as seagoing facilities are available and it is therefore the only institute where marine research can be practised as a true multi-disciplinary science.

Education as a means to train young marine scientists is considered an important task of the institute. NIOZ offers several courses, both in-house and at Dutch universities, ranging from bachelor's to doctorate levels. For example, the NIOZ the NIOZ "Marine Master" course, composed of a combination of lectures and practical work at sea and in the lab.

In addition to these courses, individual students in natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, geology and mathematics) can carry out their practical training as an intern at the end of their studies. This applies to university students as well as to students from schools of professional education.
