64PE366 - Day 6

21/03/2013 16:54

Get your shades out; the sun is here! Finally ‘spring like’ me and Lucas grabbed our sunglasses but of course within 2 -3 hours it was snowing again and we were too late. Starting the day with a lovely English style breakfast (which I have missed a lot) was a real treat and really got everyone going for the day. The 8 o’clock CTD showed a couple nice species of diatom which were becoming more abundant which put a big grin on everyone’s face (especially Corina’s)

This is my first time on a ship let alone a cruise and so far my experience has been amazing! I thought it would have been MUCH colder but except for a couple stations (station 7 and 10) it’s been surprisingly fine, considering I do my work in the warmest container which is probably around 7 degrees or so.

Amanda, Larissa and myself have seem to got a hold of the lab space and what needs to be done so everyday we seem to be getting more e-fish-ant (Pun intended). Measuring 500ml of seawater into cylinders with the, worst to date, back and forth motion of the ship and getting to the mark in one go has never been so satisfying. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels the smile creep onto their face every time that happens.

incubator SUN!

And what better way to finish of the day then with a delicious lasagna (Thanks Rik)
