The third day hard working is almost finished. As the days before the wind is still blowing quite roughly (about 7Bft) and the waves are as high as we know them by now. I think everyone is familiar with the bumping (no seasickness anymore!) and we all make sure our tea is fixed on a rubber plate.

Today no catastrophes as fridges falling open, but unfortunately the sensors on our outboard pipe are failing. Quite a pity, because now we're missing interesting data on the speed of the current... However, the CTD is going perfect in and out of the water and the filtering of the water samples has already become routine. The fridge (now firmly closed with an elastic, tape and a metal closure) is filled with 140 samples already. Due to the showers of rain today, most of Stephani’s measurements of the ocean color had to be cancelled. In between the CTD-scans there was time to look outside at the ever-interesting waves, and also to some birds. We see a lot of Northern Gannets (Jan-van Genten), Black legged kittywakes (drieteenmeeuwen) and today also 4 Common Murres (zeekoeten). These last ones look a bit like penguins and even the ones not so keen on bird watching liked them. |

The evenings are filled with watching movies (Pirates of the Caribbean), even into the wet laboratory, where the CTD-measurements are done. After an interesting tour we had in the engine room its now time to get to bed; tomorrow at 5 the measurements will start again!
