Last night the first disaster happened.. Everyone was woken up around 2 am by a loud bang, followed by the sound of glass shattering. The night was already quite wild, high waves and people were bouncing on their beds trying to fall asleep. But one wave was too much for our fridge-door.. Next morning, the first news I heard was that all petridishes of filter data from the day before had fallen out of the fridge and were destroyed. On top of this, one computer crashed that night and Sven had taken 4 hours to reinstall it.
So, at 5 in the morning, we were ready to start all over and gather new data. Most people had only gotten a few hours of sleep because of the rough night, so it was a long day, but things went quite smoothly and most importantly: the fridge has been taped shut for the night. Because the data of today we do want to use for further analysis!
Throughout the day all of us altered between filtering and napping. Music of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and the Doors kept us going. The waves were still quite rough, but it seems like people are slowly getting used to it. At least I haven’t seen anyone hanging over the railing setting their last meal free into the North Sea.
By now, the horizon’s gone, so best remedy to keep safe from getting sick is to find a place to lay down horizontally. The best place I can think of is my bed so that’s where I’m going. And after a 10 hour shift on a few hours of sleep, a nice soft rocking bed isn’t the worst thing in the world.
Let’s just hope that when I wake up tomorrow, today’s work is still intact.
